Largo, FL – (January 2012) The Armed Forces Military Museum is pleased to announce 6 special events which will be taking place throughout the community as well as inside the award-winning museum from January through April.
Touch-A-Truck
Saturday, January 28 – 11am to 4pm
Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive in Largo, FL
Attendees can touch, get on and play with the museum’s 1952 Willy’s Jeep from the Korean War complete with a 30 caliber machine gun. Korean War POW Bill Allen will also be on hand to share information about the war and to answer any questions about this time in history unfortunately known as “The Forgotten War”. The event is free and children in attendance will receive complimentary key chains and other novelty items while supplies last.

Dade Masacre Lecture
Tuesday, February 21 – 5:30pm
The Armed Forces Military Museum’s Officers’ Club
Listen to historian Frank Laumer as he describes the Dade’s Massacre, an 1835 defeat for the United States Army, which became the first battle of the Second Seminole War and lasted until 1942 with over 118 wounded and casualities. Laumer describes the battle as “a watershed in Florida history”. Laumer is the author of 2 books on the battle. A panel discussion will be lead by University of South Florida St. Petersburg’s Senior Scholar Dr. Gary Mormino. The event is free. Funding for the program is provided through a grant from the Florida Humanities Council with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Build a Model Camp
Sundays: February 26, March 18, April 29, May 20, June 24, July 15, September 2 and October 14 – 12:30pm to 2pm
The Armed Forces Military Museum’s Officers’ Club
Hosted by the Pelikan Model Club, this Sunday camp consists of level I skill snap-together models for children ages 8 and up. Pelikan Model Club will discuss the history of model building, different skill levels for certain models, how to decorate models and how to set up dioramas. This camp, valued at over $40, is priced at $18 per person and includes a tour of the museum, set of dog tags and a model kit including supplies and a certificate. Parents may tour the museum at a discounted rate of $9.95 per person while their child is in camp. Pre-registration is required by calling 727.539.8371 ext. 101.
4th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser

This is the 4th annual tournament fundraiser hosted by the Armed Forces Military Museum. Benefits and proceeds will be used for ongoing educational progress and programs as well as the preservation of the history of the military. the cost is $125 per individual or $450 for a team of 4. Entry fee includes green fees, golf cart, breakfast, awards banquet with a silent auction and luncheon, a gift and range ball. Each entrant can also sign up for the Contest Ticket Package costing $25. This package includes the Long Drive Contest, Closest to Pin Contest, Hole-In-One Contest and a 2 Mulligan Contest.
