Lighthouse of Pinellas – Tour of Kitchens 2010
Historic Snell Isle in old St. Petersburg has been chosen for the sixth annual Lighthouse of Pinellas Tour of Kitchens from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 18.
All proceeds will benefit Lighthouse of Pinellas, the only private, non-profit agency in Pinellas County serving individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Incorporating both “Then and Now,” the tour will include eight homes – some dating back to the early days of the 20th Century and others built in the first decade of the 21st. Each home will showcase the culinary artistry of a local celebrity chef, who will prepare a favorite recipe to be sampled by guests. Wine and desserts tastings, and entertainment will round out the afternoon.
Snell Isle dates to 1899 when C. Perry Snell, who had traveled throughout Europe and developed an educated taste for luxurious living, bought property on a peninsula bounded by the waters of Coffee Pot Bayou, Snell Isle Harbor and Tampa Bay. At the time, St. Petersburg was a small fishing village, but Snell could see the potential in the lushly beautiful waterfront location. It remains one of the most prestigious and lovely neighborhoods in the Tampa Bay area.
Celebrity chefs on the tour will include David Earp, John Lewis, Rich Norris, Chris Ponte, Tom Pritchard, Brian St. Arnold to name a few.
Bonnie and Tom Strickland are co-chairs of the event. Tampa Bay Magazine and Bright House Networks are presenting sponsors. For more event information or to purchase tickets, log on to www.lighthouseofpinellas.org, or call (727) 544-4433, ext. 235.
