Kumo Restaurant Opens Third Location on University Parkway

UNIVERSITY PARK – Hot tables and cold sushi await diners as the Kumo Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi restaurant opens at University Parkway and Honore Avenue. With a formal ribbon-cutting celebration planned in December, this will be the third and largest Kumo restaurant, featuring ten hibachi tables, multiple dining areas as well as a sushi and cocktail bar.

“We are excited to offer the residents of Sarasota, Lakewood Ranch and Bradenton a new, fun and healthy dining option,” said Kumo owner Sam Chen. “Our entertaining tableside cooking along with fresh sushi offerings are delicious, economical and now, conveniently located.”

Less than a mile from I-75, the restaurant will front the University Park Center plaza, currently anchored by Kohl’s department store and Fresh Market.

Chen and his family opened the first Kumo in Cape Coral in 2004. With his wife, Lily Ren, a second location opened in Venice in 2007.

Kumo is a popular neighborhood restaurant, known for its casual dining atmosphere, entertaining tableside cooking presentations and fresh sushi offerings. The menu features traditional Japanese hibachi grilling, including steak and seafood pairings, teriyaki flavored vegetables and rice, as well as deep fried tempura, udon noodles, bento-box styled meals and locally inspired sushi creations.
