Local Professional Organizer Designs New Girl Scout Patch

St. Petersburg, FL, September 25, 2009 ˆ A Girl Scout‚s mission is to make the world a better place. Heather Lambie is a former Girl Scout and currently president of St. Petersburg-based Your Home Editor. Her mission is get you organized so your workspace, kitchen and bedroom closets are better places.

As a child, Lambie instinctively knew how to arrange her surroundings and reaped the benefits from her organized lifestyle and time management skills. Now, as a mom of two small children, Lambie figures it‚s never too early to teach kids about organization and time management. One of the ways Lambie found to give back while teaching invaluable life lessons was through the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida.

„The Girl Scouts organization focuses on building courage, confidence and character,‰ she says. „It‚s a great outlet for girls to contribute to society with community service projects while developing their full potential.‰

Lambie‚s latest contribution to the Girl Scouts will take shape this fall in the form of a brand new patch that is being offered at all age levels. The Organized for Life patch will be earned by either completing the accompanying requirements or by demonstrating an understanding of its concept.

The curriculum Lambie conceived and created was based on her own experience as a former teacher as well as built upon the Girl Scouts‚ „3 Keys to Leadership.‰ The first phase is ŒDiscover.‚ Here, Scouts will learn various ways to categorize, sort, edit and prioritize. Scouts then ŒConnect‚ with their neighbors in the second stage where they learn about different ways people in our country and around the world, deal with organization. The last phase leads the Scouts to ŒTake Action‚ to purge their own environments as well as gain control of their busy schedules.

„Kids adapt certain skills best through group encouragement and accountability,‰ Lambie explains. „If we encourage these qualities now, they will last their entire lives.‰

The Organized for Life patch will be available in the upcoming fall edition of the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Program. The patch debuts on the local level before it moves on to national availability and selection.

At present, there are more than 2.7 million Scout members and almost a million adult members who work as volunteers. More than 50 million American women have participated in the Girl Scouts.
